Character-Run Businesses
What are Character-Run Businesses?
If you've already perused the Housing page, you may have noticed a few openings listed as Open Real estate for business. Businesses run by characters presently in Elsweit can set up shop in one of those vacant lodgings and also live in the apartment above the store. While Elsweit has a bustling economy and plenty of established institutions already, characters who are not drafted into the military have the option of opening up their own businesses if they don't want to work for an Elsweit-native institution.
Keep in mind that in most cases, character-run businesses will typically yield lower profit margins than pre-established businesses because the natural citizens of the empire will not be familiar with them or the proprietors.
The Process
It's a fairly straightforward process.
If Your Character Wants to Run a Business
Great! Keep in mind that if that field is already established in Elsweit (for example waste disposal or farming) your profit margin may not yield very high due to competition. Also keep in mind that if your business is accepting employees, Elsweit law makes it mandatory that employees are compensated before funds go to overhead or the business owner.
Please fill out the following application and post it here as a reply.
Character: [OU/AU] Name (canon)
Business Name: Self-explanatory. If a plot dictates that a business name be changed, be prepared to make the mods hate you for making more work for them.
Business Location: Check the housing post to see available real estate.
Category of Business: If the category of business already exists on this page feel free to list it (i.e. hospitality) - otherwise make up your own.
Description of Business: A more in-depth description of the sort of service your character will be peddling to the city.
Employment Opportunities: Are you planning on letting other characters help out with the business? How many? What kind of positions are available? What will be expected of the employees? What are the hours and conditions like? Will certain employees be expected to live with the owners in the apartment upstairs or be on call? Do different positions come with different wage expectations? These are all things you need to think about.

Once at least two people on the mod team have reviewed your business application, you will received either an acceptance, a revision request, or a rejection.

Congratulations! A winner is you! Please post a copy of your business application to the List of Character-Run Businesses thread, and then post the basics over at Businesses thread. If your business is accepting employees, comment here. It is your responsibility to respond to application requests for employment for your character-run business. Alternatively you may make a business page on your character journal and link it on the thread as well as long as it has the pertinent information posted on it.
It is also your responsibility to create a template for an employment application.

Business Name: Shining Future Fortune Telling
Business Location: B2
Category of Business: Entertainment
Description of Business: A quiet and peaceful location where visitors are invited to relax, drink tea, and have their fortunes told. Rei will either perform a tarot reading or cast I Ching coins (for played characters), or any other form of divination she knows such as palm reading (for handwaved NPC's). The fortune teller seems fairly straightforward, not claiming to have access to mystical powers and stating that the divination instruments are meant simply to allow clients to regard their situations more clearly before making important decisions. She also crafts and sells simple charms (not magical) meant to bring good luck to those who hold them.
Employment Opportunities: Rei could use some help keeping the place clean and tidy, running errands, or even managing a joint business as someone who sells tea or baked goods to clients. Got an idea for what you can do? She's open to hearing about it, at least, but it's no guarantee she'll accept if she thinks it puts her own business at risk.

Description of Business:
A small little shop that is simple and plain where people can go to get requests to get something made be it simple everyday objects to healing items to bombs, the sky is the limit. The shop will also take on quests such as finding certain items to hunting certain creatures as well as items.
Employment Opportunities:
Permanent employment wise would be someone who would be willing to be a apprentice who she would train to slowly become an full alchemist eventually. For things such as gathering and going on hunts, Totori will more than likely just hire out one of the freelancers, which I am planning on doing a system for like the more she hires them the more money she pays them kind of deal if that is okay?

Category of Business: Tailor/Toy Shop
Description of Business: It's a small petite shop in which Tear would offer her services as a seamstress to others who need their clothes being fixed, or tailored. On top of that the small shop will offer cute mieu shaped mascot dolls hand sewn by tear among other cute stuffed animals. Tear will extend her services to anyone that is in need. Tear also will eventually go about making clothes since she does seamstress work, so characters can definitely ask her to make clothes for them or something of the sort.
(As a side note, this shop will serve as a sort of information gathering area under the table, meaning the people of Elsweit and Ashe will not be aware of what is going on unless they are caught. Tear, however is only trying to gather useful information to get her companions and other people that got stuck here home safely or help organize the people so they aren't too flustered! This is however a secret. So those who are interested, please comment below or feel free to poke at me on Plurk @ : kagaminokakera. )
Employment Opportunities: Tear is looking for people she could trust to do front desk work along with logistics. Must be here to work on a timely manner. She will also offer meals to those who are working along with the pay they require. She also needs help with sewing the dolls she wants to sell, aka Mieu Dolls. Sometimes workers might end up as her dress up dolls if they are okay with that!
She would also need people who will be willing to help her gather information underground since the business is a good cover for her to gain more knowledge on Elsweit and its kingdom. (This portion of the information will only be revealed to those she trusts, and those who are willing to take the risk. If anything she won't divulge it without being discreet and it will not be in the job description. Let me know if your character is interested, and we can start something!)

Category of Business: Customer Service
Description of Business: Tifa's bar has a rustic look. When you walk in the door the bar portion is along the right wall with a clean wooden counter and stools. On the right is a bunch of tables, also rustic in style. The lighting is soft creating a relaxing mood to the bar. The walls have a few candles to add flickering to the soft lighting though they are out of reach of those at the bar. There are many alcoholic drinks and she hopes to eventually have local beers.

Business Location: B3 - Will be sharing a business with 7th Heaven.
Category of Business: Delivery Company.
Description of Business: Cloud will be personally overseeing the delivery of both parcels and messages alike by himself for the time being. It will be a small business that will be within the city walls and kept secretive from the Elsweit hierarchy for as long as possible.
Employment Opportunities: There will not be any employment opportunities for the time being. Perhaps from time to time if he needs an extra set of eyes and ears.

Business Location: Business district, one of the larger buildings if possible.
Category of Business: Entertainment
Description of Business: Staged theater performances of all kinds: musicals, dramas, comedy, anything is possible in the Théâtre Imaginarium! The best way to describe they layout would be a picture, though the lobby would be before the theater itself. It's fairly simple in layout and box office, simple consessions (water, candies, etc) and then behind the stage would be anything she can build/magic into existence.
